Medical spas are also known as a medspa, medi-spas, medical spa, etc. offer comfort and results — a spa-like experience with the health, wellness and beauty treatments and procedures found at a doctor’s office. At FemCare a doctor oversees the medical spa and is in charge of medical procedures.
Don’t let the name fool you. A day spa is only that and can’t provide medical aesthetic treatments that a medical spa can. Treatments at medical spas (like FemCare in Burbank) are more intense and offer much more noticeable results. Aesthetic and regenerative medicine includes all procedures in the field of aesthetics with the exception of surgical procedures (meaning the need of an operating table and general anesthetic). Aesthetic procedures commonly include skin fillers such as Juvederm, Botox, or Restalyne, laser hair removal, skin tightening or resurfacing, IV therapies to address health and injections such as stem cells or PRP (platelet-rich plasma) to help with healing.

We ask that Laser Hair Removal patients come shaved before a treatment. It is recommended to shave the day before your appointment. We also suggest that all patients receiving any of our facial treatments and consultation to arrive without make up if possible. You’ll want to read our pre and post procedure guidelines after you’ve had a consult.
Lasers have been used for over a 10 years for a host of cosmetic and medical procedures including treatment of facial being and leg veins, age spots, skin resurfacing (wrinkle reduction). We use state-of-the-art technology to customize your treatment depending upon your skin type and hair density. Our laser hair removal systems emit a precise beam of pulsating light that passes through the skin to the hair follicle where the energy is absorbed by melanin (or pigment) that gives color to the hair shaft. The lasers’ energy is then absorbed by the pigment in the hair and transferred to the surrounding hair follicle.
Laser hair removal can be performed on almost area of the body for men and women – from small areas such as your upper lip, underarms, bikini area, chin, neck, and face, to larger areas such as arms, chest, back, and legs.
No, it’s not the same. It’s better! Most people are going to be good candidates for this. Old hair removal techniques, like plucking, shaving and waxing, are only temporary as you know. Electrolysis was also used in the past and lasted a long time, but it was time-consuming. Each individual hair had to be treated so it was usually limited to smaller areas of the body. Laser hair removal, in contrast, is non-invasive, and removes unwanted hair safely without damaging skin structures and delicate pores. Bikini or face areas can usually be completed in under 20 minutes. Larger areas like legs or arms will take longer. The biggest selling point about laser hair removal is that the treatment affects a big number of hair follicles at once resulting in quicker more permanent results. As a rule of thumb, several treatments are required and you can expect to see a fifty percent reduction in hair growth after just one treatment. If you hate shaving, painful waxing, tweezing or electrolysis, our laser hair removal in Burbank may be the best solution for you.
The short answer is to drop by our Los Angeles medical spa for a consult in person. Optimal hair removal results have been achieved with darker, more coarse hair, but other thing can influence the treatment, and are best evaluated in person. Depending on the amount of hair and area treated, the procedure varies from patient to patient. In general, the treatment begins by trimming the hair above the skin to be treated. Then, we’ll put a cool gel (like an ultrasound gel) over the area to be treated. The laser’s hand piece will be applied to the skin to deliver the pulses of light needed to begin disabling your unwanted hair. Check out our website or our YouTube channel for more information on this.
You can return to work or resume normal activities immediately following your procedure. However, since some redness may occur, you may want to plan your work or social engagements accordingly. This may last from a few minutes to several days depending on the area and skin sensitivity.
You ABSOLUTELY MUST stop waxing or plucking any hair for several weeks for laser to be optimally effective. We have a variety of lasers to safely treat all skin types and skin colors including dark & tanned skin. Our highly trained professionals educate you on your options and tailor a treatment program that best suits your personal needs. Together you and the laser specialist can decide if your expectations will be met and which treatment is the best option for you.
Hair grows in cycles. The laser is only effective on hair in its actively growing cycle. At any one time there will only be certain hairs in that growing phase. This means that consistent treatments at appropriate intervals are absolutely necessary for the best possible results. The number of treatments required depends upon your skin, hair coloring, coarseness of the hair and density per treated area. Multiple treatments may be required. The laser hair removal system causes permanent reduction in the number of hairs growing in an area. Because hair grows in three phases, and each hair goes through these stages independently, it is almost impossible for one laser treatment to permanently reduce all hair in a given area. Clinical studies, which have followed patients for one year after completing two treatments, have shown that reduction in hair growth was stable for the duration of that time. While individual results may vary, patients typically find that it takes 3 to 6 treatments.
Most insurance companies do not offer reimbursement for cosmetic procedures like laser hair removal.
Treatments that affect the living tissue are considered to be medical treatments. That means all medical treatments must be administered by trained and experienced professionals. Doctors, RNs and nurse practitioners perform medical treatments. In addition, a physician oversees all treatments to ensure that the patients are safe.
You’ll have to fill out some forms when visiting our medical spa (if it’s your first visit to our Burbank location, come a little early to fill these out). Then, we’ll take you back to a treatment room for a consultation. That’s when the doctor or nurse will explain the treatment you’re looking to have and answer any questions. In some cases, you can receive the treatment right after the consult. Other times, we may require some preparation. For example, if you want something like laser hair removal you can’t shave the area for at least 24 hours prior to the treatment.
Medical spas offer a host of treatments, and each treatment has its own list of guidelines. However, most treatments do not require any downtime after the procedure since many are non-invasive (non-surgical). In fact, patients often can go back to work when they are done.
Most Medspa treatments are elective, so insurance policies usually don’t cover these. However, medical spas offer a variety of payment options, including cash and credit. Our medical spa in Burbank is also a medical practice and we provide treatments that insurance WILL pay for. Call us to find out which.
Some people are afraid of pain or discomfort during a treatment at a medical spa like skin resurfacing. Our professional staff do everything they can to minimize any discomfort during these procedures (which are non-invasive). If you’re coming to our Burbank medspa for resurfacing or any other procedure, of course we want you to let us know if you’re feeling any discomfort. We’ll take steps to lessen it.
The Opus Plasma Handpiece uses radiofrequency (RF) and microplasma energy to achieve great skin results. This light causes soft tissue coagulation which leads to remodeling of the collagen within the dermis. The remodeled collagen fills in wrinkles and sagging, for overall skin tightening.
Rather than using one large beam to deliver infrared light into the skin, Opus Plasma uses an ablative CO2 laser to resurface. The laser affects the skin at a cellular level providing great results. The treatment is also very fast. On average, 20-30 minutes. If you’re looking for skin tightening treatments in the Los Angeles area we invite you to come to FemCare. We think we do it best, especially because we have Opus Plasma resurfacing.
You may experience some lingering warmth, redness or tightness in the area that was treated. This fades within a few hours. Because so much of the skin is unaffected by the light pulses, there is a quick healing process. Generally, you can have a treatment and return to work or anything else without any recovery time. A series of treatments at regular intervals may be required to achieve the desired result of smoother, tighter skin in the face, arms, abdomen, and other areas.
The feeling associated with microneedling is often said to be similar to a light sandpaper being rubbed across the skin. The procedure takes 15-45 minutes depending on the size of the area treated. We can also apply a topical numbing agent 30 minutes prior to your treatment to lessen the discomfort. And with SkinPen microneedling the needles are so narrow many say they do not feel much at all.
Nonsurgical treatment options like the procedures we offer at FemCare Health & Beauty-Burbank medical spa are perfect if you have an area on the face or body that you want to enhance, but you don’t want to undergo an actual surgical procedure. There are also many benefits with nonsurgical treatments – one is the ability to obtain dramatic results akin to those achieved with surgery, with much less downtime and discomfort.
At FemCare Health and Beauty Medical Spa, we are proud of our ability to offer a wide variety of nonsurgical choices for our Los Angeles area clients including treating excess fat, aging, loose or sagging skin, skin discoloration, acne scars and everything in between. We feature only the best procedures, staff and technology available, and will guide you in selecting the optimal treatment option to help you achieve your cosmetic goals–without surgery
We think of ourselves as a Los Angeles medical spa, not just limited to one city. The fact that we’re a medical practice as well makes us unique in the field. We’re also on the cutting-edge of health, wellness and beauty treatments. Our use of the most up-to-date technologies like the SkinPen or Opus Plasma make us the first choice when looking for a medspa in Hollywood. Check out our reviews. We love that so many clients have given us 5 stars.
Yes, that’s correct. We provide both vaginal bleaching as well as anal bleaching. These services fall under the more polite term “intimate bleaching” or “intimate lightening.” We are one of the top intimate bleaching Los Angeles medical spas.
Of course! We welcome men and women and provide many of our treatments for both. Men, especially, like to take advantage of our hair loss treatments, both surgical and non surgical.
Our transplantation hair services include FUE hair transplant (which stands for follicular unit extraction) using SmartGraft technology. Unlike years ago, this hair restoration procedure doesn’t leave an unsightly scar on your head. We also offer non surgical hair loss treatments like PRP (platelet-rich plasma) and exosomes at our medical spa which can help reverse or slow hair loss when in its early stages.
More non surgical facelift information is available on our website, but in brief a nonsurgical facelift (in our case we use the Profound laser) achieves very similar results to a surgical facelift but without the surgery and downtime. If it were up to us we’d recommend this procedure almost every time instead of its surgical counterpart. Who wouldn’t want a more youthful facial appearance without the hassle of actual surgery?
For Profound cellulite treatment info we’ve got a whole page on our website, but briefly we use the Profound laser which uses radio frequency and microneedles to heat up the skin and cause production of elastin and collagen. Profound needles go deeper into the skin and are more effective in breaking up the fibrous bands that contribute to that lumpy or orange peel look that cellulite causes.
Yes, we use PRP and platelet-rich plasma interchangeably on our website. If you know platelet-rich plasma you know its using your own blood (the liquid part or plasma) with concentrated amounts of platelets. In our Burbank medical spa we use PRP for many treatments including hair loss therapies, pain reduction or healing.
IPL stands for intense pulsed light and it’s used in our vaginal lightening (a.k.a. “intimate bleaching”) procedures. We are a Burbank medical spa serving all of Los Angeles. Since we’re located in Burbank, our clients come from all over including Pasadena, Glendale, La Canada-Flintridge and Hollywood, Beverly Hills or the western San Fernando Valley on the other side. If you’re in our near any of those cities we invite you to come visit us in Burbank and see why many call us Los Angeles’ best medical spa and especially for this intimate treatment.
Yes we do offer UBI treatments. We often combine UBI (ultraviolet blood irradiation) with ozone therapy to address many of our clients’ situations. If you are already familiar with UBI you know it’s your own blood which is extracted and passed through ultraviolet light. We also add ozone (O3) to the mixture. When the blood is returned to your body it can help with a variety of ailments and inflammation is one.
Yes. We have several treatments that can help depending on your situation. Call us to schedule a consult, but we often provide Ozone and UBI treatment for patients that need or want relief from pain or autoimmune disorders. We’ll recommend a treatment that’s best for you once we know more about your unique situation.
Yes we do use stem cells for treatments depending on a patient’s needs. For example, a stem cell injection into a patient’s joint can help speed healing. We do this a lot for people who come to our Los Angeles medical spa with sports injuries.
Yes we offer pain management in Los Angeles. There are a multitude of approaches to pain management and many don’t involve surgery or drugs. At a medical spa and practice like our we can address pain management through things like PRP or stem cell injections which can help (in the case of joint or cartilage injuries) the body to heal itself. Call us for more information on this.
